Hey,

I'll be in London for a couple of days around the date the iPhone 6 is supposed to be launched and it would be great to buy it by then, since the official launch in my country (Portugal) should be in December - and then I'd have to wait for February because Apple only ships like 1 phone each month :roll eyes:

So, I was wondering how easy would be to get the iPhone 6 in London on day one. Did anyone did this? Any tips or recommendations?

Thanks for reading

EDIT: since I'll be paying the unsubsidised price for the phone and I'll be buying it on an Apple store, the device will be sim unlocked, amirate?

The device will be unlocked to any network.

It really depends on stock on how early you'd have to get there - they may do pre-orders, like the iPhone 5, which would decrease the amount of people trying to buy one in store. However, if they don't and supplies are tight, you may have to get there pretty early. I know people on the day of the 5s launch who were at our local store (~40mi from London) at 3am and still didn't get a phone.

And when do the stores open to public?

You can bring a chair and be the first in line.

Or a tent and sleeping bag for a camp out.

o_O People still camp out? At the Apple Stores near me, people start lining up around midnight but that's the extent of it. For the last 2 years though, stock was plentiful. I know folks who just walked in Sunday and still got a new iPhone (albeit sometimes not the color/capacity they wanted).

Dont they do the first sales at midnight ? Cant remember, but the lines do start forming like 12 hours before the "opening of the doors".

It will be unlocked.

As soon as you put a SIM in, it'll lock to that network.

So, you put an O2 SIM in, it'll be locked to the O2 network.

That's not correct
iPhones bought from apple in the uk will remain unlocked always.

I think that's what happens for Carphone Warshouse's iPhones, and perhaps even 'locked' ones from carriers (though not sure), but definitely not to Apple-sold phones. They are factory unlocked for their lifetime.

Ah, thanks.

You never stop learning!
