Buying an iPhone from a third party?

Hello all,

I can't seem to find anything on this topic. I have an iPhone being held for me at Target. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. Is there anything I should know before I go? Are there any additional charges (versus Verizon in-store) by purchasing a phone at somewhere like Target, BestBuy Mobile, etc?
