I'm going to be in Portland after the new ('19) phones arrive at the Apple Store. I think I heard somewhere in the past that the local stores will NOT sell a phone to a non Oregon resident. Anyone know if this is true or not. I've bought other Apple gear such as iPads and a MacBook Air there in the past without a problem.

Sales tax issue and Oregon doesn't have a sales tax.

It's not true. I am a California resident. I buy all my Apple products, MBA, MBP, iPhones in Portland, Oregon due to no sales tax. Never have I ever been refused. I have walked in and made purchases in the Downtown Apple Store. I have also placed an order for pickup and no issues. Buy in Portland and save on sales tax. All that sales tax is being given to other countries for aid and it should be in our pockets.

My girlfriend, who lives in Saint George, Utah, bought her Xs in Bakersfield, California last year. No problem.

Thanks to everyone for this information. I'm going to PORTLAND this time. 100 bucks is 100 bucks...

How do they know if you live in Oregon or not?

I can guarantee that Apple knows where I live.

I'm going to be in Portland Sep 23rd - 25th. I guess what I remembered was the link from NoBoMac below from 2 years ago.

I might even try a preorder to a relative in Portland. I'm so NON excited about this year's version that I don't care when I receive the new phone. And for the first time, I'm taking a step down and going for the 11r or whatever they call the IP Xr.
