I am thinking about buying a 500 gb external hard drive tomorrow off of craigslist. It has the following programs on it.

Adobe CS5 (InDesign, Dreamweaver, Premiere, AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Fireworks, SoundBooth, Acrobat etc...)
Apple Final Cut Studio 3 (Final Cut 7, Motion, Color etc...)
iWork '09 (Pages, Numbers and Keynote)
Microsoft Office 2008 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Entourage)
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3
Adobe Photoshop Elements 8
Corel Painter X
Drive Genius 3.0.1
Toast Titanium 10
StuffIt Deluxe 13

For some reason I don't trust that for $200 this guy can give me legal versions of all this software. Does he have some sort of liscense key that he can use 10 times or something. (I have seen this same person sell external hard drives before with the same programs.) If I do meet up with this guy I am going to meet him at a local internet cafe. He said for some reason the CS5 is a bit tricky to install in the add and he would meet up and help install it. Could there be a mac virus on this hard drive or could he do something tricky to harm my computer with this? I just kind of want to clear this up before I go ahead and purchase/install the software.

They're most likely pirated copies. I wouldn't trust them to be error free or malware free. There are no viruses in the wild that run on current Mac OS X, but there are known trojans in pirated copies of some software apps.

i wouldn't trust anyone off of Craigslist about that sort of thing....its much safer to simply buy them legally. You can get a relatively cheap 1 or 2 terabyte external HDD for just about $100.

*never trust craigslist*
