i was looking at pricing for G5's tonight and realised the following

G5 (Dual)
Australia (edu)$5039.10
America$4713
America (edu)$4241

17in
Australia (edu)$1169
America$1050
America (edu)$941

20in
Australia (edu)$2159
America$2040
America (edu)$1837

TOTAL SYSTEM
17in
(Aus. edu)$6208
(US) $5763
(US edu) $5182

Price diff (Aus edu v US)$445
Price diff (Aus edu v US edu)$1062

20in
(Aus. edu)$7198
(US)$6753
(US edu) $6078

Price diff (Aus edu v US)$445
Price diff (Aus edu v US edu)$1120

BTW
US and AUS prices include the australian 10% GST, and US prices converted to AUS using 70c in the US Dollar

can anybody think of any logical reason for this?? or am i just missing somthing quite stupidly obvious?

And how to go about getting a G5 from the US with out paying tax twice, and getting US edu pricing from australia(i know im not ALLOWED too but is there any way around that) ??

thanx

hmm

is tax included in Australia? And is tax close to 10%??

In USA prices don't include tax which varies from State to State.

In Ireland where I'm, it would conventionally be included in the price.

Prices in Ireland must be higher....damn okay I will compile some prices for a comparison!

Re: Buying From America

G5 (Dual)
Australia (edu)$5039.10
America$4713
America (edu)$4241
Ireland: $3961

17in
Australia (edu)$1169
America$1050
America (edu)$941
Ireland: $988

20in
Australia (edu)$2159
America$2040
America (edu)$1837
Ireland: $1839

these prices include sales tax and went from Euros to US dollars (x 1.17)

in last post I had not realised that Aussie sales tax was installed...
but the Irish one is also included...hmm assuming I did not mess up some of the prices that makes Ireland cheaper than US on average. Boy - that surprises me. But I could have made a mistake - I'm on my 2nd G+T. Hmmm, after all this hard work, I think I need another.

G'day!
Rob
p.s. I used to watch "neighbours" as a kid...the days of Des, Ralph and the red head with the crazy car  - is that still going???

argh - I'm on more drugs than Rush Limbaugh - sorry - I though prices were USD not AUSD

this brings Ireland as expected up in price!

G5 (Dual)
Australia (edu)$5039.10
America$4713
America (edu)$4241
Ireland: $3961USD 5660 AUS.D

17in
Australia (edu)$1169
America$1050
America (edu)$941
Ireland: $988 1411 AUS.D

20in
Australia (edu)$2159
America$2040
America (edu)$1837
Ireland: $1839 2625 AUS.D

now its as I would have though, I'm afraid. But I could have messed up!

sales tax is 17.5% in Ireland, I think. Ouch.

well don't look at hong kong or singapore prices for G5's.

Hi,
I'm in New Zealand and I recently purchased a Sony F717 digital camera from Amazon. The price difference between NZ and the US was about US$300. The US prices was about US$670 and the NZ$ Price was equiviant to about US$1024.
Because, Amazon will not ship Sony products outside the US, I sent it to a friend in the US and they sent it via US "Express" Mail. It arrived in about 5 days. Without any NZ duties! Earlier, I had purchase another high priced item a camera lens from the US. It was sent via UPS international express shipping. I had to pay about NZ$180 in duties! So, now everything is shipped to my friend and they send it "express" for around US$35 to New Zealand!
Within a year or so, I plan to purchase a new G5 and I'm going to buy it from the states!
Yeah, I had looked at the prices here and in Aussie, too much $$.
I was looking at the 23inch Cinema Display in the US and in Aussie, big difference in price!
Tell us where you purchase you next computer!
Good luck!
