I plan to buy my first Mac this month.

I'm going to the nearest apple store this Saturday to buy a 15" uMBP.

If I wanted to upgrade the Hard drive to 320gb, would I take it home on the day, or have to order it... and they will send it to my address?

Also... is it best to book an appointment at the genius bar?

Thanks in advance =D

You can change the HD yourself. It's quite easy and there are great instructions in Youtube how to do it. It's also cheaper.

I know if you order it online you can customize it and it is free shipping, but in the store they will probably just have you order online because I don't think they will install an upgrade for you there.

I would change the Hard drive myself... but doesn't that void the warranty?

Its my first macbook, so I want to keep the warranty just in case ^_^

I went in recently to get a MBP until the salesmen told me that they only had the certain configurations of the macbooks in the store and if i wanted a customizable one then I would have to order online. He didn't even give me the option of ordering it while at the store, so i left empty handed :(. Fortunately ordering online was great and it was shipped very fast.

Okay then, cheers for the replies.

I think I might just buy it online; saves me a journey =D

I've just finished college, and have been accepted into university

how do I go around getting the educational discount?

I know you can do it by going on the Apple website using the University network, but i'm unable to do this.

so i guess i will have to phone apple?

but how do i prove im going to university?

thanks,

Do you have your ID card yet? How about a bill, acceptance letter, or anything sent to you saying you were admitted on the school's letterhead should work. If you have any doubts, you can just call the store and ask beforehand- they're pretty lenient in the first place.
