I live out of European Union. Next month I will be in London. If I purchase one iPad 2 in an Apple Store (London)...is it possible to get refund of tax on the airport when leaving the country? How much? 17.5%?

Thanks!

VAT is currently 20%. Look on HM revenue and customs website.

Out of date

How is it out of date? I didn't read through checking a date, but skim read it and it sounded similar to the process I was aware off. Fill out a tax return form and file at the airport when leaving the EU...

I think he's referring to the 17.5% it mentions, which is now 20%

Buy one at airport when your leaving, assuming your airport has a reseller, Newcastle has dixons and sells iPad! Otherwise you will have to pat the tax just like the rest of us

Wrong. Non-EU visitors can buy VAT free. Not at all retailers, but a lot of them offer the facility to claim it back. Suggest you get the facts before offering advice :)

As I said, ask the store if they do VAT free sales to non-EU buyers. Collect and fill out the form in the store, then when leaving the UK go to the VAT returns office at the airport and claim it back.

I am not sure how this works either.. cause when you take it back home, you will have to pay VAT or import duty based on your country's import regulations.

Or not...some countries have tax free (import duties) until the certain amount.

"Certain stores will allow you to cash in and get refunded for the sales tax on your clothes and accessories purchases."

Apple is one of these stores? And about taxes, I get refunded of 20%? If yes, it will be cheaper than buying on US!

Thanks.

I don't know about Apple. You will have to call them and ask. You get refunded the VAT, which is currently 20% in the UK.

Wow, I had no idea the UK had raised VAT to 20%.

Anyway, the program you're looking for is called "Tax Free Shopping". Basically when you buy your iPad, make sure the store you buy it from does this. Get a form from them and the receipt. At the airport take your item, with your form and receipt to the appropriate counter and get a refund. I'm not sure if you get the whole lot back. There might be a fee.

There you go, Apple do offer tax-free shopping! Enjoy! Just remember to take it out of the box when going home so you don't have to declare it ;)
