Is this a good idea? I've been looking for a new phone, and the plans on new 3G sets are just too much for me. I could probably also unlock it and use on another network.

A couple of other questions, first. If I decide to unlock it and buy a plan from another provider, will they send a SIM card? My current phone has a pay-per-minute type of plan with no SIM card, as far as I can tell. Secondly, once I do get a SIM card and the phone unlocked, is it easy to put the card in the phone?

I don't think they send you a SIM card. Go into the store and get a free phone with your contract and use that SIM.

Not sure on the unlocking.
