Just a quick question - they're all built the same and AT&T is using the same technology that's common here, right? I have a friend visiting in August and it would be perfect if she could bring me one over.

(Edit: Just to make this clear, it would of course be an unlocked one from an Apple store.)

All American iPhones are locked to AT&T (and they wont unlock them for any reason).

Besides, you wouldn't really save any money in doing so.
 
I think I edited after you posted - the ones for $599 with no plan aren't locked, right?

And I've done the math, unless there's some additional fees I'm not seeing it would be a good deal cheaper than being locked into a more expensive plan for two years.

hey i have a friend visiting us now and i like to buy the iphone 4 unlocked so do i need to have adress in us or can i just walk in to store and buy one ? and unlock it by my self when unlock is possible ?
