In front of my MacBook Pro
Towards the end of June I'll be in New York for a while, but I do not live there, I am actually in Kentucky. I plan to purchase an iPhone in one of the Apple stores in NYC (wether there's a 3G one or not) and activate it there. That's where the line blurs... I don't want to have a New York area code and seeing as I've never activated an iPhone before I don't know if it gives you the option to select your region, so the question is, can I activate my iPhone in NYC or will I have to wait until I get home?

Are you porting your phone number over? If so, it shouldn't matter.

Also, I believe when you do the sign up process online, they ask for your addresses (billing and shipping).

I think you should be ok.

Current iPhone users, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, I will be porting my number over from Nextel.

I believe that you give your old number and poof all is good. You may not be able to activate there at the store, but instead online. Bring your laptop ;)

Ah, yes, certainly I won't activate at the store. I have my laptop with me everywhere I go, so that should work... though will transferring it to sync to my main Mac be an issue?
