Hey guys,

This might be a dumb question, I'm kind of new to this but here goes. I want to buy an iPhone because I'm currently eligible for an upgrade with AT&T but can't afford the 30 a month for data. I was wondering if I buy one and then unlock/jailbreak it immediately if that could get me out of that cost?

Thanks,
Dan

Not really, unless you buy it used. When you buy it, they activate it, and you must have the service at least one month, cancel, pay the termination fee, then unlock, so it would be $300+ just for that. If you cancel your service within the first month, you will have to return the phone.
