That sounds like it could honestly be 5G or 5.5G. If you're looking in the Apple refurb store, they have the sections split into Current Generation and Previous Generation iPods, so the 5G units would be under Previous Generation.

Also, as far as I know, refurbished units are usually open-box returns, though some repaired models could be in there. They come in a brown cardboard box instead of the original black packaging, but otherwise usually look brand new (thought not always).

The MPN on mine is different. (I have Gen 5, not 5.5). Mine is MA146LL/A. Hope it helps.
