Hi everyone, im new. I just made the decision to skip PC and go to apple due to software is better.

I am planing to buy the new mini m4 PRO (rather then mac studio). Now, i have googled, checked youtube videos but came nowhere with my issue. I wanna connect 2 monitors (samsung odyssey G5, 4k monitors) to my mac mini. As i understand it, HDMI isnt the best option or is it? Can i connect to 2 monitors directly to the mac mini or do i need to buy a hub to make it doable? If i can connect it to mac mini directly, would i need some specific cable that i wont get when i buy the monitors?

Thanks for guidance!
Have a great weekend

Johan

You can connect the two 4K displays directly to Mac mini ... one via USB-C and one via HDMI.

In addition to what mentioned in the previous comment you can also connect both via thunderbolt (usb type-c) ports directly or via dongles.

From the Samsung website, looks like those displays have 1 HDMI port and 1 DisplayPort, and comes with one HDMI and one DisplayPort cable. (There are several models, though, so double-check the specs on the ones you’re actually buying).

So you’ll be able to connect 1 with the HDMI cable, but for the second one you’ll need some form of USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. I’d go for a straight USB-C to DisplayPort plug cable, and ignore the supplied cable. I’ve had such cables from Pluggable in the past and they were fine (but that was a long time ago).

If you do get a hub/dock you’ll probably want a Thunderbolt/USB4 one as the cheaper USB 3-based ones (even with type C connectors) have limitations with 4K displays.

HDMI is fine, certainly connect one display that way to the built-in HDMI port.

For the 2nd as mentioned, a USB-C to DisplayPort or USB-C to HDMI cable (rather than adapter) is best. I tend to stick with "VESA Certified" DisplayPort cables; there's no equivalent certification for HDMI so any HDMI "Certified" cable you see it's just a marketing term. If you go HDMI, just stick with a well-known manufacturer.

Thanks for all the information. One will go with HDMI, other one i bought displayport to USB-C with 4k at 165 hz! Cheers

I bought everything including this https://tinyurl.com/bdzcd82p to connect to the monitor to the mac mini directly, but didnt work. Tried over and over but the monitor and mac mini isnt communicating. Can it be because of the lack of VESA certifikation?
