A nephew works for a computer company (not Apple) that is offering Macbook Pro refurbs to their employees. Specs: 15 inch, 2.6GH, 4 or 8 GB ram, 320GB hard drives. No year given. No operating system. Price: $649 or $759. How would you acquire and install an OS? (Probably SL). I have a SL disc, but is it only for my Macbook?

If it is a 2009 Mac, which seems to be the case according to its specs, though you could verify via serial numbers and www.appleserialnumberinfo.com, the 29 USD Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD available via the Apple Online Store or Amazon should work perfectly fine as a retail DVD (it is one anyway) on that Mac. Your SL DVD will not work due to being bound to your MacBook model.
If it is a 2010 or 2011 MBP, you need to contact Apple in order to get Replacement Restore DVDs from them, which should cost between 15 to 30 USD.
