Well I decided to go for the high-end MBP for the graphics.

I don't really game except for playing FIFA occasionally
I thought that I might as well use the PC version and install on a Bootcamp partition then just plug in my controller (or controllers if 2 player) and connect to an external monitor

Would it run smoothly at 1080p on the monitor?

I can't speak for Windows, but OSX handles an external HD monitor easily, even on my low-end 2011 MBP.

Sorry you must've misunderstood! I meant running the external monitor whilst playing the game - I assume it would require more graphics outputting a game to 1080p as opposed to the 15" resolution.

I have the i7 2.3ghz MBP and I play at about 1680 x 1050, which is 1050p kinda. I get around 35 FPS playing Deus Ex Human Revolution, which I'm sure is more graphically intensive than FIFA. So you're probably looking at around 40 FPS for FIFA, which is definitely enjoyable.

Thanks for the reply. I have never really done PC gaming before so I don't know what FPS is good etc. is 40fps as smooth as a console?

The human eye doesnt perceive over 60 fps, most monitors refresh rate is 60hz, which is 60fps. Some people, especially enthusiast gamers can clearly notice the difference between 40fps and 60fps, but if you are a casual, 40 is fine :).

Console games usually are 30 FPS, maybe 60 FPS for really well coded or basic games.

Low end 15 inch MBP has only 256GB ram with graphic card. Highest end graphic card will handle Fifa, but 1080P is not guaranteed.
