External SATA. You need a eSata port on your MBP to use it. Most likely it will come in the form of a cardbus addon card.

I'm unclear of your reply. I'm still unsure if I should choose the option and if I will benefit from it or if I should just choose next option down. I want to use the Firewire 800 regardless.

between a My Book Pro and a Mercury Elite Pro, what would be the better choice to go for here?

eSata

I've read the eSATA is way faster than firewire 800. I have two external drives that have both firewire & SATA connections (good to have the options), and I'm interested in getting an express card for my macbookpro if SATA is that much faster. Anyone else know? I do pro audio and firewire is the standard but if sata is better I want to give it a try....already have the drives.
