Ok!

Hi there!

I'm new, and hope to become a regular, maybe after this I will!

I am after buying my first MacBook, after coming from a background of 10 years of Windows. I've used MacBooks, but never owned one.

I will be using my new addition for
  • Studying, (starting 6th form next year)
  • Music, (Logic Pro 9, Main Stage 2, Garageband)
  • General browsing, (Social Networking, YouTube, ect)
  • Developing, (creating websites, games, apps, ect.)
  • Photo and movie editing, (iPhoto, iMovie, maybe Aperture and Final Cut Pro)

So I guess I could be considered a power user, but not a power user needy of the new Retina Display.

I would prefer a 13" because of the portability and ease of use on stage/gigs. At home I would probably use a second, larger monitor.

So, here is what I have come to see.

BASE MODEL 1:

13-inch: 2.5 GHz
2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
4GB 1600MHz memory
500GB 5400-rpm hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Built-in battery (7 hours)
£939.60

I would upgrade that to an 8GB RAM, taking the price to £1,015.20

Or...

BASE OPTION 2:

13-inch: 2.9 GHz
2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
750GB 5400-rpm hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Built-in battery (7 hours)
£1,173.60

I wouldn't change anything about this device.

I want to know what you guys and gals think I should get dependent on my usage.

Also seeing that the second option is more than £150 more which would go a long way towards programs that I need with the switch over, or an iPod or something.

Thanks!
