Hi everybody!

Im currently planning to buy an new iphone 7 but right now i dont get it wich software they use for new phones, is it ios 10? If it is then there will be no point hoping for a jailbreak because 10.2.1 is the current one and last jailbreakable ios was 10.2 if im not wrong. Im currently using android phone but I was an oldschool apple fan I had all the phones from the first one until the iphone 5 ( all of them jailbroken ofc) and after that I have been android user. Now if its time buying a new phone I tought of trying the appel again but without jailbrake im not quite intrested. I hope someone can give me an answer! The onley way would be then to look for second hand iphone wich still has jailbrakeble software but I wouldnt prefer that.

Cheers!

For the iPhone 7, iOS 10.1 and 10.1.1 are the only versions that can be jailbroken. You can use the original yalu + mach_portal from yalu.qwertyoruiop.com.

You can use http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html/ to check the serial number from the box in the store to see which version it is in before you buy it. Most Apple Store employees are happy to help you find the one you want.

wow, thanks mate thats a saver ! Im currently located at Australia so I have to chek the gumtree ads because there are shops that sell brand new iphones cheaper than the Apple store but I can always ask them wich software is it on. Is the software version also located on the box?

No. You can find the serial number on the box, and put that into the site I linked above (http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html/), which will tell you in what week of which year the device was made. You can then cross-reference this with the data for when each version was released on a site like https://ipsw.me to check what the version is.

You need an iPhone 7 on iOS 10.1 or 10.1.1. This means you need to find a device that was manufactured between week 44 and week 49 of 2016 to guarantee that it is on 10.1 or 10.1.1.

No. It will only update if you go into Settings > General > Software Update, or plug it into iTunes and press Update. Despite what some people say, the device will never update itself without you putting your passcode in You can block the update with the jailbreak anyway.
