I'm currently using a base model 2014 13" MBP w/ 8gb of ram for my job, and the quicktime screen recording feature is a major part of my workflow. Lately Quicktime beachballs and I have to force quit the application and have lost full projects before.

I want to buy a new MBP, but my question is what upgrades do I need to invest in to make sure my MBP is able to run Quicktime effectively. CPU, Ram, etc? What upgrades would be beneficial to my workflow.

Thanks for your help.

Apple officially dropped support for QuickTime on macOS a little over a year ago with the release of Mojave, making High Sierra the last release to support it.

That limits your choice of machines to 2017 Mac models and older, as no Mac introduced after Mojave will run High Sierra. Rather than sticking with old hardware and software, it might be time to modernize your workflow.
