If one was to buy OS X, I was reading where iMovie, iDVD and GarageBand doesnt come with it. Can someone verify this for me?

Correct you need iLife for those apps.

Yep, as risc said- you need to buy iLife in addition to buying Mac OS X.

In general, you only get iLife with Mac OS when you buy a new (or refurbished) computer from Apple.
