i was thinking of buying quicktime pro. 1 question though, how often does apple usually update quicktime from say ver. 5 to 6 ? my problem is, i don't want to buy quicktime 7 pro, and then quicktime 8 come out a month later.

Nobody can give you anything more than educated speculation. That said, previous QuickTime Pro licenses lasted longer than an afternoon. IIRC, licenses purchased in the latter days of QT 5 Pro survived into QT 7, albeit with reduced functionality. If the past predicts the future, then you can expect your QT 7 Pro serial number to enable a subset of QT 8's pro features. To get them all, however, you will have to purchase a new license.
