I am going to be doing normal day to day tasks, word processing, internet and playing music and also recording music in Cubase, reason and sometimes logic.

I am really confused. I understand the differences. The prices are great i think!

I just need a little bit of help. What do you think i should do here?

Thanks a lot guys for any comments.

Really, it is up to you. However, two things are worthy of note. What are your feelings concerning the screen? If you like the glossy - and many on this forum do not - go for the new MBP. If, however, you strongly prefer the matte screen, go for the "classic" MBP. The other concern is cost. If money is no object, again, go for the current (i.e. new) MBP. Likewise, if finance is a consideration, then I suggest you opt for the classic MBP as it offers excellent value for money. I have a "classic" MBP and am very happy with it.

Cheers and good luck

Try the new one in store and check out the gloss, see if it's too much for you to handle, it is indeed a better performing machine and better built, etc

Well the 2nd Gen MBP has a whole new Logic board, ram, graphics, and CPU compared to the old one. Personally I would get the New one because of Snow leopard be just around the bend u will need all the graphics power u can get.

I wouldn't buy the old Macbook Pro style simply because I don't trust nVidia/Apple over the defective material used in the Geforce 8600 GT.

nVidia HAS gone on the record and stated the graphics cards in the new Macbook Pro and Macbook chip are not using the defective materials.

Another thing to consider is rigidity. I have a classic mbp and although i havent had any problems, my friend just bent his superdrive slot shut from to much weight from his wrist and i have seen numerous whole laptops bent. I'm not knocking the old one because i much prefer the keyboard and matte screen but the new one is definitely more rigid. Depends how much it is going to travel.

Definitely the new one, especially since it's cheaper than the old 2.5.
