Buying Tips for 2nd hand MACbook

i met this guy online.
he has this 2.4 GHZ macbook to sell that he bought last november from australia.

1.He has the money receipt.
2.Its not the unibody one. its the white one.

HE asked for $1230.
With the same amount i can get a new 2.0 GHz white mac.

should i go for his offer?
this is my first mac by the way.

My question is what is there to "inspect" to buy a 2ndhand Mac.

like in PC..i just do "Dxdiag"...to know about the whole machine..
how can i chk its date,hardware info....and what other things to watchout for.

Go for the new unibody, base model. It offers a GPU that is way faster than the GMA X3100 in previous products. You won't really notice the difference in processor speed. Plus you're getting 2 GB of DD3 memory(way faster than DDR2), with snow leopard coming up the unibody will be most futureproof.

Correction. The poly MacBooks were updated some time ago and now use the same integrated GPU as the aluminium MacBooks the, Nvidia GeForce 9400M.

The main differences now are RAM (DDR3 vs. DDR2) and HD space, the fact that poly units still have FireWire, plus of course the unibody vs. poly. shell.

For that kind of money, I'd go for either a new/old whitebook with the nvidia 9400 or a refurb uni 2.0 mbp for less money than what he's wanting.

To inspect the machine, click on the apple at the top left corner of the desktop, scroll down to 'about this mac' then click underneath on the more info button. It will tell you everything you want to know about every aspect of the hardware.

That is correct, but as the OP has said, it's the 2.4 GHZ model. As far as I can remember, the 2.4 white macbook never got the 9400M.
