Buying USB C cables need advice

I am looking at buying USB 3 A to USB C. I see some have “56K Ohm Pull-up Resistor”. What’s that for (ensure safe supply?) and should I ensure I get a cable with one?

What are you charging with this cable?

I would like some info on the necessity or otherwise of having the resistor. I would have thought an iMac would give a good quality power supply via USB. At the moment I just want a cable to add web access to ATV by the published hack.

It has something to do with properly negotiating the power provided to the charged device.
