This is probably a stupid and simple question, but are there any 'specs' for USB-C cables?

I don't like the white charging lead and also the eGPU lead is too short so I want to replace it with something longer. I want two black leads, but do I need to worry about materials and specs or just buy the cheapest one?

Thanks.

This is, quite unfortunately, the most confusing part of USB-C and something that the USB consortium has kind of messed up. You see, USB-C is a single connector, but it can support different protocols. And if one uses cheaply built cables, they won't be able to support all of these protocols (or they could even simply lack the required wires).

In order to have fast data transmission, you need well shielded high quality cables that support high speeds. Furthermore, in order to support full power delivery, your cable needs to include high-end current wires.

Bottomline: Check with the manufacturer. If this is for the eGPU, I assume that its a Thunderbolt 3 cable with 100W power delivery. Those are quire rare and not cheap.

Thank you for the reply.

It is for the eGPU so I need power and data transfer as the eGPU will have my external drives and monitor connected to it. It arrives tomorrow, I'm going to see if I can set up in a way that I can use the supplied lead, but all I've read is complaints about how short it is so thought about buying another one. However, you've answered my question with an answer I suspected. Thanks.
