Hello there,

Total novice here looking to learn editing. Was looking to get FCS2. Seen some "used" copies on Ebay for less money. If I get one of these w/ the disks and serial numbers, will I be able to do periodic updates and ultimately pay to upgrade to FCS3 whenever it comes out? I read somewhere that Apple's license agreement allows for one transfer of ownership. Can anyone confirm?

Thank you!

I got my copy of Final Cut Studio (1) from eBay and it is fine. I registered it in my name and have had no problems. I'll be getting the Final Cut Studio 2 update shortly and all in all I saved money from getting it second hand and buying the upgrade rather than just buying it new.

Just make sure it is not the academic version and you should be fine.

Also make sure you are buying the actual full install retail discs and not burned copies, upgrade only, or demo/not-for-resale versions.

Oh and make sure you get the full box set. The manuals can be a life saver with those small hard to solve problem that you may have, and believe me you'll have a few when you first start using FCS. It takes a while to learn it :).

Annnddd... the seller has to have removed that FinalCut end user license from their system entirely.

Lots of times, sellers upgrade software and then sell off the older version disks. This is not allowed, because they don't have a new license when they buy the upgrade, they are still using the license attached to the older version disks. In that case you would not be able to transfer the license, upgrade yourself, or use the software legally.

does anyone know if I can upgrade to FCS 2 from DVD studio pro?
I bought it as a standalone a few years back and want to upgrade to dvd studio pro but it no longer comes as a standalone.... it is bundled in with the studio now....

(did that make sense?)
thanks for the replies.
