What should I look for when buying a used iphone 3G from craigslist seller. I am going to meet one today and was wondering what I should be checking.

He claims its unlocked with 4.1 and asking $150. Is this reasonable.

Kindly suggest

I'd leave the 3G and buy a 3GS as it would be a much better upgrade. The 3G is horribly slow and has been killed off by apple.

For it to be unlocked it has the upgraded baseband 6.15.00 (can't be downgraded).

If you need to restore the iPhone you'll need a custom firmware every time.

For the money, I'd give him between $100-$125. Check out the iPhone really good and make sure nothing is wrong with it.

I am buying it used coz its for someone else outside the country. If its not worth $150 then I won't buy it. i am not finding any 3gs and the ones that I find are overpriced.

thanks for the suggestions

150 is slightly high but not egregiously so. I sold my 3G for 100 but I probably could have gotten a little more for it. See if you can get him to settle for 125 but if it's in good condition and includes everything 150 isn't terrible.

That "$50" 3GS is more like $1500 when you consider the cost of the contract you have to sign...

How do you think he's going to use his 3G after he buys it? He's gonna pay that anyway.

I mean, I'm assuming that if he wants it for an iPod and isn't going to pay for service he'd have mentioned that fact in the original post.
