I am running a 2012 mac 15 inch.. Sonoma... 1tb SSD and 16gb ram.. I am able to run 3 or 4 Adobe programs at once no issiue.

I just got back from a trip abroad, have 500 images and videos that I want on computer so I can start to edit... The only way I was able to get them on my mac was through 'Photos' app...
Now, they are in their as 'imports' but they seem trapped.. I don't wan them hidden in some app, I want them in documents tab... if I try to copy over 500 files my mac starts throwing a fit with the fan kicking in and generally just loooks like it will take hours!

Is there a better way, surely this should be just a drag and drop thing? Apple always trying to force you into their way of working..

How can I get my files out of this horrible app without nearly blowing my mac up and it taking 5 hours!

Thanks, just tried it.. Annoyingly it saved all 500 loose in my photos... Could not find an option to allocate folder.. However it has left a load of .AAE files, don't evebn know what they are, can I delete them???

EDIT - Just read they are metadata files, edits etc.. so clearly if I delete them I lose the edits.. How would this work with say Capture 1 or photoshop if I import a photo, would it retain the existing edited data?

Where did these files GO TO...?
Right into the Photos library...?
Or... somewhere else...?

I've NEVER permitted either Photos or iPhoto (before it) to "catalog" my photos.
Instead, from day one with my cameras, I created my own "photo library" in the finder, organized with folders/images that I manually create.

I don't permit ANY image-processing app to take control of my image cataloging.
That way, the image library remains "universal" -- not locked into any app.

I keep my images on a separate partition on the Mac, called (appropriately) "Media".

I should state that I don't own an iPhone (nor any other smartphone) and use an actual camera to take pics. So I'm not sure how the iPhone connects to the Mac. I'm going to take a GUESS that iOS doesn't have "finder access", by which you can directly access/copy/move/delete files, as one can do on a Mac, is that correct?

The solution I think you need is to find out how to transfer photos from the iPhone to a folder created in the finder on the Mac. Other users in the forum will have to help with that.

Once you "dump them" into this folder, create sub-folders within if you need to.
Organize them by date, subject -- or however you want, this is up to you.
Once you get them organized, THEN you can think about editing them with the apps of your choice.

I don't really use Photos much.
I just looked and it seems there are only 7 photos in the entire app...!

(there is a digital photography section here at MacRumors -- perhaps you ought to be looking in that sub-forum)
