Bypass Sim activation with no sim?

My iphone 3G is from a Canadian carrier and I am now in the states...I updated to the 4.0 FW but now need a sim card to activate my phone. I just want to use it as an ipod. What do I do? Can I skip right to the jailbreak? PLEASE HELP!
