Hello,

I have an iMac running El Capitan with a hardwired Apple keyboard. The other day the 'C' key stopped typing, but it still functions to copy using 'command-c'. When trying to type an email in gmail, if I push the 'shift' key to type a capital 'C' it jumps to the 'CC' address line. When I do the same thing in TextEdit, it brings up a color wheel. I've gone into system preferences and reset the keyboard modifier keys to default, but this didn't help resolve the situation. Does anyone that might know what caused this and how to fix the situation? Thanks in advance.

Those are "Shift+Command+C" results. It would seem like your Command button is stuck but you'd notice that with the whole keyboard.

If you have ANY other keyboard you should do a test with it. If there are no problems with a second keyboard you can quickly eliminate a software issue.

You could also boot into Recovery and see whether the same issue occurs there.

Thanks! When I boot into Recovery mode the 'C' key functions the same. No difference.

When not in Recovery mode, I also noticed that if I type the 'C+V' keys it pastes, so it seems like the 'C' key is working as a 'Command' key, instead of typing a letter.

Thanks. I'll find another keyboard to test.

Happy Holidays to all!
