Is the C1X better than the X80? I was under the assumption that apple put the X80 in the pro bc it was what they thought was a more “premium “ modem. But the tests Ive seen online seems that the C1X is just as good if not better in almost every situation. The only area where I thought it would win is efficiency.

Others with Air whats been your experience to prev iphone models???

I know these tests are very inaccurate and far from a perfect science but even if anecdotal it seems to be a surprise at least to me. Always knew apple’s modems would be better but not this soon in its second iteration.

I would love to see a test of signal strength in weak / fringe areas, and the ability to hold onto a usable signal. Hard to gauge any solid info from results as there are seemingly unlimited variables that play into it. But IMHO that's the most important "feature" of any modem setup.

There’s a person on YT that did some data speed test between current and previous gen Apple modems. Results weren’t anything crazy and no voice test.

However, I returned my Air because after a week trying it and a Pro out in my day-to-day I felt the Pro had better reception and voice. Sometimes the Air didn’t even register bars in a place I always got full bars until I turned cellular off/on again. Things just seemed more questionable on the Air where the Pro felt more trustworthy. Could have been software related but wasn’t willing to risk it on a first gen modem which it technically still is. Sadly people aren’t reporting on it much since apparently phones aren’t used for talking anymore ha.

in terms of battery efficiency yes, the C1X is leaps ahead, but in terms of actual connectivity no, the Qualcomm modem is better.

Ah, yes, but how do you define "connectivity" :)

Max speed? Consistent speed? Reliability? Fringe area strength? All of the above?

The C1 in the 16e actually showed strong reliability in fringe areas, albeit pretty consistently lower top speeds. But personally I don't care if I'm getting 300 down or 80 down as long as it's consistent and works as well as possible in low signal areas.

This one is not bad. of course any real test should be 100x more exhaustive than this

No. It’s comparable to the X75 but not better than the X80. Although it’s a little more efficient than the X80.

Nah, in reality... C1X is roughly 55% more efficient if we just count battery capacity differences.

We have seen this being the case in practice. At home, my wife's 17 PM lasts way longer than my Air. She can reach 2.5 days without charging with her 17 PM. I can only reach maybe at most end of 2nd day with my Air when it's not used at all.

But when we went out this weekend, both Air and 17 PM came home with basically the same percentage. She was using all of 17 PM cameras a bit more but I used my Air for roughly 2.5 hours of navigation + some quick snaps + editing 60MP photos from my Sony camera so usage were basically comparable between the 2.

When y'all were out, would you say it was decent to strong signal the whole time, weak signal, or some of both? Also what carrier if you don't mind me asking?

We're on T-Mobile. There was 5G but it was 1-2 bars. Signal was about the same for both phones, as was speed. But I was surprised to learn my wife's phone drained that much battery that it was basically the same as my Air. We have noticed this many times but last weekend was when we specifically tried to test it. Sure enough, both phones ended the day with similar battery percentage (20) by the time we got home.

Purely anecdotal on my end, but having had both the Air and the 17 Pro - Speeds were marginally faster on the Pro, but that battery drained so much faster on cellular versus the Air. On my home wi-fi, they were similar having the same N1. But in my experience, the C1X was much less power hungry than the X80.
