Hi folks,

I purchased a new MacBook a month ago and it´s been running fine, but since yesterday (I installed iStat Pro widget) it freezes as soon as I turn it on and try to open any app.

I cannot even repair permissions or delete the widget because I just get the "processing" colored cursor and stays like that forever, when I open them.

Tried reseting the PVRAM (or whatever the name is) and still no luck.

Any clue?

What 3rd party utilities or haxies do you have installed?

Nothing out of the common stuff

- Adobe/Macromedia web studio
- Microsoft's office 2004
- VLC
- Dvd2OneX
- MacTheRipper
- Skype

Btw, I finally could uninstall the iStat widget but I still get the processing circle sometimes and the computer gets stuck, I can move the cursor but everything else is frozen.

After a while it works again but it's a nightmare.

Btw, I noticed this is not the correct forum so mods please move it.

Restart holding the SHIFT key to start in SAFE BOOT mode. Then run the disk utility. If it still hangs, contact Apple.

Also check that your firewall is switched on. Out-of-the box it is not (which I find strange).

Let me know if it helped.

Thanks for your help Parsec.

I followed your advice, restarted in safe mode and repaired permissions, but it still still freezes for moments even if I'm just running safari, but it's better than before.

My gf just told me that she installed +6000 new fonts on the system since she does some graphic work... do you think that could be the reason of this super slow down?

iStat and Leopard

I have a new macbook and also noticed iStat Pro causes a lot of issues.

Booting to Safe Mode resolved the freezing issues.

I uninstalled iStat and freezing went away.
