I'm buying a Mac Pro in the next month and have a $6,000 budget.

How would you suggest I spec it?

I will be using this for Cinema 4D and After Effects work mainly... render time is not as important as workflow speed- I can set off a render overnight.

So based on the processor options, RAM options, RAID or other hard drive options and graphics card options (anything on the market, not limited to the Apple store), what would you get if you were me?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB (since you are not gaming)
====
$3,300

Anything else not from the Apple Store:
EIZO or NEC HD monitor (my preferences): $500 ~ $800 (http://www.eizo.com/products/lcd/s2242w/index.asp)

16GB RAM in 2GB modules from OWC. You may keep on reserve the 6 1GB modules already inside: $300 (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory)

4 HDDs ( I have two 750GB in RAID0 as boot, application and home disk, 1TB HD as storage, and a 500GB 10rpm as scratch disk ): $600 at the time

Total: $5000

You might want to add a RAID card ($700), external RAID for more storage, software or other goodies. Probably can save on the monitor as well but I like my precise colour space..

Thanks! You think that card is better for my purposes than the GTX 285?
