Cable for Macbook Pro Audio

Is this going to work with my macbook pro for Digital Audio?
ie - Play Lost episoded on my TV, connect this cable to the audio jack and the other end to the digital audio jack of my amp?

Will I get 5.1 surround sound?

if not, can I use the adapter, and hook it up to another digital audio cable and have it work?

That cable will work for hooking up your MacBook pro to your receiver. You would have to be playing LOST from your Macbook Pro
