I am using cable internet (the cable is plugged-in in the Ethernet port of my MBP) and I purchased a Wireless ADSL Modem Router on Amazon (I haven't received it yet). Would that work or I have purchased the wrong one?

It will not work. You must already have a modem which converts the signal from the coaxial cable from your ISP to a format your computer can read (that's what's actually plugged into your computer). If you want a wireless network, you only need to purchase a standard wireless router/access point. Decent ones go for around $50 US.

The ADSL modem/router won't work because DSL utilizes a different transmission medium than cable.
