hey folks,

I have a problem with my caffeine which is downloaded recently whose version is 1.1. When i started it, it promps me a window asking me about how long this non-sleepness works. I chose indefinitely. Then that icon -- a cup of steaming coffee showed on the upper right corner of my screen. But when I close the lid, it still goes to sleep and i lost my internet... I have to resign into the softwares after openning the lid. Any idea why it doesn't work? Thanks guys.

BTW: my machine is macbook pro 15', if that ever matters.

Don't have a mb but on my old g4 in the power options you could choose what happened when you closed the lid.

Caffeine is not designed to override the computer's settings as to what happens when you close the lid. It is simply designed to keep the computer awake for either 1) a set amount of time when you click the icon or 2) indefinitely. This is basically an override of your settings concerning screensaver, screen dimming, and turning off the screen.

So is there any software i can use to forestall sleepness of my mac, pls?

i've downloaded insomniaX and it works just fine. Thank you guys!

it warns me that leaving mac on with lid closed will heat up the computer pretty fast and is damaging to the machine. ...

It's never really a good idea to close off the air vents of a computer and then run it with the screen right next to the hottest part of the machine...which, in essence, is what you're doing.

Long as you don't do anything CPU intensive (watching YouTube videos, burning DVD's etc) then it'll be fine.

Be careful, you dont want a warped screen, I use Insomiax because it makes the MBP more portable, I mean if I Want to move from the sofa to my office upstairs I just close the lid and carry it, and when I get there I dont have to wake it from sleep. You really shouldnt leave it closed for more than a couple minutes. IMO
