I'm a mac newbie, so I don't have a clue as to how this happened, but suddenly my little coffee cup icon next to the wireless and bluetooth icons on the top right disappeared. It's not in the application folder either. Any clue as to why it may have disappeared, or where else I can look for it. Thanks in advance for your help!

update, i found the application in the trash, and dragged it to the applications folder and double clicked, and the coffee cup icon reappeared on the top right bar, but now when i click on it, instead of steam coming out of the coffee cup when on, and back to no steam when off, the whole coffee cup disappears and after numerous clicks reappears but without the steam effect. In other words, it doesn't seem to be working properly.

So, how do I uninstall the application and reinstall. Would this be a good fix?

Thanks

Could someone please help me by explaining how to uninstall "caffeine" on my MBP? I tried moving it to the trash from the applications folder, but it says it can't because its open, and I can't figure out how to close it. The icon just disappears from the top when i click on it, but it's actually "on" when i do that, because a mouse-over gives me the message "Caffeine is on"

Restart your computer, then empty the trash. Try to install it again, from the preference window choose start up on login.

My problem is it's not in the trash, every time I try to move it to the trash I get this message:
"The item "Caffeine" cannot be moved to the Trash because it is open."

So quit Caffeine, and move it to the trash.

Can't quit...it's glitchy. If I double click on the icon in the applications folder, nothing happens. I don't get a menu for it at the top of the screen, so I can't do cmd "q" to quit or File/quit. Any suggestions?

Apple Menu > Force Quit > Caffeine

Caffeine doesn't show up in the "Force Quit Applications" list. But yet when I try to drag it to the trash again, it still says its open. All I show in the Force Quit Applications list is Safari & Finder :-(

So not even pressing Command and clicking on the Caffeine icon in the menu bar works to open the menu?

Have yo *tried* restarting and then trashing? That should work.

Restarting actually fixed the original issue, and now it's working fine, so no need to trash! Now I can quit it if I want to with no problem! :D THANKS!!!
