calandar restore el capitan

upgraded the other day to el capitan and now calandar is blank. i have icbu backups and when restoring, it says the backup has been restored but still blank calandar
i have also tried via time machine and same result, blank calandar
i don't use icloud, any help would be really appreciated as word and everything else was on that calandar. thanks
