Caldigit TS2 audio distortion

Wondered if anyone else had this and/or a solution

rMBP - thunderbolt to TS2
TS2 - audio (simple stereo line out) to Boss Companion 3 speaker.
Audio - terrible very distorted


rMBP audio lead (simple stereo via line out) to Boss Companion 3 speaker
Audio - perfect

Am using Boom2 as well, but no different it turn that off.

Any thoughts?

My dock seems more sensitive to ground loops and poor connections than my rMBP. Is the plug fully inserted?
