Calendar alert not working!

Hi ALL!
I am new in Mac, started using MacBook Air recently. I cannot figure out Calendar. It has default 15-mins alert, but if I try to change, then alert is gone completely. I do not know if that matters, but I am syncing it with Gmail/GCal.

Can anyone help me? How to make specific time for alerts?

Where do you want to receive your alerts?

Well, if I just let Calendar use its default, it pops a reminder with a sound. Otherwise, nothing happens if I change the timing of alert.
