I'm primarily an Android user looking to switch to the iPhone. I have a XR on ios 16.6 that I'm testing the waters with.

One feature I use a LOT currently is calendar based reminders so I do not forget my TODOs.

On the iPhone, when I set up an event, I get a notification on the lock screen if locked, and a banner notification if unlocked.

However, I don't see a badge on the Calendar icon on the home screen. Without the badge, there's a very high chance I will miss the event if I just go by notifications - since they're kind of out of the eye sight once you've unlocked the phone.

I've checked the notification settings for Calendar and all notifications are on and focus mode is also off.

What am I missing ?

EDIT: Other badges, such as for GMail, do work as intended.

Calendar appointments don't work like that. You get a notification at the time - and then Calendar is done with the appointment, it's "done its job."

If you want the reminder to persist until you mark it as complete, use the Reminders app for that. Reminders can be flagged for a particular day, or day & time - and the stick around (with badge, etc) until you mark them as cleared.
