A few ideas to improve the functionality of the calendar next event lockscreen widget:

  • Once an event has started, it should show the next event (for example, it's 345p now and it still shows the 330p event and not my 430p event - the latter would be much more helpful)
  • When tapping I would like if it went into the calendar app, not the specific event
  • There should be an option for a single widget that goes across the entire space below the time which can then my next three events

I also wish there was an option, for when the current day has no events, to show the next upcoming event (on a future day) rather than just "no scheduled events – your day is clear".

Hmm, after my last event yesterday, it did show my first event today. I wonder if that depends on how long there is until the next event?

Interesting... do you recall what time it was that you noticed that? I ask because even an event for early tomorrow morning doesn't show up, so I'm wondering if perhaps it only shows events for the current day until that day is almost over, then it shows the next day?

I can't remember exactly but was yesterday evening and my first event today was 1130a. Perhaps related is that I've also noticed that the lockscreen data don't continuously refresh - the interval must be at least 15 minutes because to the first point in my initial post, the next event did show up maybe 15 minutes after the start of current one and sunrise time didn't show until about 15 minutes after sunset

I know this isn't too helpful, but I use both the native Calendar and Google Calendar widgets on my homescreens, and I notice the two apps have different standards w/r/t to the above (i.e., when to notify of an upcoming event or all-day event the next day)... I generally feel like Google Calendar handles it better, though I couldn't tell you the specifics offhand.

Thanks... mine is still showing "no events today" even a few hours after I added an early Wednesday AM dummy event as a test. I'll see if my theory is correct this evening, maybe after ~5:00pm it will begin showing tomorrow's event.

So I just checked (5:00pm here), and it is indeed now showing tomorrow's events.
