Calendar settings not staying set on 7 plus

I have an iPhone 7 plus and use both Google calendar and the phone's native one. When I go into the iPhone calendar and choose the calendars to display, I choose my Gmail calendar and all is ok. When I exit and go back into the calendar, all my previous settings are gone and I need to select everything every time.

How can I get my selections to stick?
