Calendar: US Holidays works on laptop but not the desktop

Calendar: US Holidays works on laptop but not the desktop. I made a case with Apple, spoke to a senior tech, we could not figure it out. I thought that after a new OS, (El Captain), the holidays might start appearing on the desktop, no luck. Stumped, any ideas appreciated.
