To get my alerts from the calendar. Must the ipod touch be on hold, or it will alert me if the touch is turned off(redslider)

I am not sure I understand you rightly but the calender will alert you even if its on sleep mode if that's what your question is
 
my question is that, will it alert me if my ipod is turned off totally
