Calender Notifications?

So I was reading a review for the iPhone 4, and it had pictures of the home screen. This guy had notifications for his calender... now call me a total noob, but is this just for iPhone 4? or can someone tell me how to do this, because I would like to see if I have an event that day without looking at my calender... Thanks

It is for invites and I believe it is for Exchange accounts only, although I'm not 100% sure about that part.

I also think that the badge comes up if a shared event through exchange gets a change in time/date.
