Hey,

Just grabbed a APTV 2022, was curious if I need to do the color calibration for every permutation thats not DV?

Like SDR, 60hz, 24hz, HDR 60hz, 24hz etc.

And does it save the SDR calibrations if I switch the main console back to DV and use the content matching feature?

For color calibration, you only need to calibrate the dynamic range modes: SDR and HDR10 (and maybe HDR10+). Dolby Vision does not require calibration, not necessarily because it's super accurate, but because it requires access to your TV's calibration profile data.

However, I strongly recommend that you first visit the color bar (PLUGE pattern) to correctly set the black level first.

Please refer to my Apple TV 4K Settings app Guide on Reddit for details.

So the framerate's don't require calibrations each, only the main mode?

Also thanks for the link, I've already checked out your reddit post from a google search :D I believe you mentioned that each frame rate needed to be calibrated individually.

Frame rates can affect audio synchronization. For wireless audio (e.g., HomePod), you can correct the synchronization with Apple TV's wireless audio sync feature. This should be repeated for each frame rate.

Honestly, the Apple TV calibration is pretty useless. At best, all it does is adjust for the color temperature. You are better off calibrating the TV itself to get a better picture.

In terms of most impactful to least impactful, at least in typical scenarios:
  1. Find your TV at Rtings.com and go through its settings recommendation guide and pick your TV's most accurate preset modes and settings.
  2. Open the PLUGE pattern (Color Bar on Apple TV's Settings app) and set the black level.
  3. Use CalMan to calibrate your TV's AutoCal profiles.
  4. Use Apple TV's Color Calibration tool to calibrate SDR and HDR10 modes.
While I find accurate color tones to be very important, they are typically far less offensive than other settings.
