Police said that after McCowan left the truck, Max knocked the vehicle out of gear and sent it rolling backward.
The engine wouldn't have to be running if it was a manual transmission parked on an incline. Just knocking it out of gear would cause it to roll backwards. I remember doing that once as a kid and getting my butt whooped for it.He left the engine running without the handbrake on!?

however; it should teach you not to leave your car in neutral..
Sure sounds like it was in a gear, and was knocked into neutral. Not a terribly difficult thing to do, IMHO.Police said that after McCowan left the truck, Max knocked the vehicle out of gear and sent it rolling backward.

Good point, but that doesn't change the fact the handbrake wasn't on!
