California Sales Tax and Walmart

Previously I purchased the 3gs at Best Buy and was charged sales tax on the unsubsidized price ($600 or so). After that I was told that Walmart only charges sales tax on the purchase price ($200). Our local Walmart affirms that. Has anyone bought a cellphone from Walmart that can verify this?

Also, does anyone have any news on the availability of the iPhone 4 tomorrow at Walmart?
