Hi,

Im trying to get a new phone # on my iphone 5.

I found a great phone number with the same 3 digit area code of where I live in.

Only problem is I asked the ATT rep what city the phone # is in and she said its in a different city from where I live.

That city is not the nicest of neighborhoods, and it concerns me.

Will the city name show up when I call people with caller ID?

What is the city name used for?

Thanks

Edit: I found this image online. Will the city show up like this if I make calls from my iphone 5?

It has nothing to do with the phone you are calling from (iP5 or other phones). The phone RECEIVING the call is the one that will make the difference. Some phones look up the city and state, or just state that the number was originally assigned to. It is a feature of the receiving phone only, your iPhone doesn't send this info.

Exactly.

So will any recieving phone see the city that my # was registered to?

If so I will re - think my city numbers. The ATT Rep said anyone who I call wont see the city name. But I took that with a grain of salt.

Anybody with that particular feature on their phone will see it even if you have a 'dumb' flip phone.

So they WILL see the city that the phone number I'm about to register with right now?

I dont want that city to show up, its not where I live and its a bad neighborhood.

Not much you can do except maybe elect to block your number so it show "Unknown Caller". I never answer when I get a call like this.

Maybe not everyone know the city you are calling from is a "bad neighborhood".

Alright, just what I needed to know.

I thought maybe it only shows up if the line calling you was a landline.
